German-Russian Media Program

In its German-Russian Media Program, the International Media Center (IMC) bundles an exchange program for young Russian journalists as well as independent research on the development of Russia's media system.

The various projects unite a collective concern: encouraging freedom of the press and strengthening human rights in Russia. This goal is achieved with the help of excellent Russian cooperating partners. With the School of Journalism at St. Petersburg State University, the International Media Center Hamburg has one of the largest and most important training facilities in Russia as a first-class cooperating partner. The cooperation between Hamburg and St. Petersburg in the areas of journalism education, research and teaching is marked by the active mutual commitment of both partner institutions.

Within the framework of the town twinning between Hamburg and St. Petersburg the IMC and the School of Journalism at St. Petersburg State University cooperate in the exchange of talented journalists as well as in international journalism education. Russian and German journalism students take part in the fellowship program and deepen their knowledge about journalism and democracy in Germany.

The program focuses mainly on the meaning of social media and digital public spheres for democracy and the Russian civil society.
